Talkin' Trash

Summer…it will be over soon. Woe is me!! I have been breathing in every moment of these past few warm days. Generally I take Louie and Chuck to either one of two places for walking and running. Both have areas that are essentially free of any traffic, allowing me to let them run – no leashes. Despite the lack of vehicles, however, people still find their way to these places and “sign the guestbook” so to speak in the most annoying ways. What I am talking about is “TRASH.” I am amazed at the garbage that is simply tossed out wherever, whenever – even when there are plenty of waste receptacles. Maybe it’s a reflection of the way I was raised and the era of my youth, but I still vividly remember the “Keep America Beautiful” commercial with the Indian guy, tear running down his cheek as he looked upon the filth of a once sacred land.

I wonder what makes some people so oblivious to their environment and the upkeep of such. Are their rooms or houses full of trash? That being said, I make it a habit to pick up trash almost everywhere I go. I once had a friend who was obsessed with picking up cigarette butts whenever she saw one on the ground, she couldn’t stop herself it seemed. I am not quite that fanatical. Admittedly, there are some things (used disposable diapers for example) that are off limits, but unfortunately there are enough other haphazardly disposed of materials to keep me busy for a very long time. Anyway, I’m getting pretty darn good at it! Louie and Chuck help whenever possible.
